Kanyakumari-Kashmir Round trip - Day 17 - Khardung La - Nyoma - Hanley

Day 27 - Khardung La - Nyoma - Hanley (stay in Hanley, Ladakh)

Kilometers covered - 360 KMs

Walking - less than 2000 steps

The day started with a pleasant surprise :) We thought we should reach Khardung La early to get nice photographic coverages - however the vehicle had other plans. 6.30 AM - we noticed the flat tyre just before check-out. We inflated the tyre and went to the petrol pump - there was no 24 hours puncture shop in Leh. We got few leads without any luck. Instead of wasting time, we used the tubeless kit and rectified the air-hole ourselves - thanks to Ladakh IOCL filling station, Leh. Once the tyre is set, we filled petrol and also took 2 cans petrol (34 liters in total) because there are no bunks in remote Ladakh areas. We should manage 450+ kms with the stored petrol (or) to opt for adulterated OTC- over the counter petrol from locals.

We managed to reach Khardung La by 9 AM - lot of crowd and couldn't take a convincing picture with the vehicle :(

The pass is on the Ladakh Range, north of Leh, and connects the Indus river valley and the Shyok river valley. It also forms the gateway to the Nubra valley, beyond which lies the Siachen Glacier. A motorable road through the pass was built in 1976, and opened to public motor vehicles in 1988. Maintained by the Border Roads Organisation, the pass is strategically important to India as it is used to carry supplies to the Siachen Glacier. The road is one of the world's highest motoroable roads.

I'm not using adjectives to describe the place, roads, views, snow, thrill etc.., coz there isn't any in English or any other language for the same ;) Hence, decided to post few pics and one video

We had brunch in Leh - Roti, Dal and Paneer Curry :) and started our drive to Hanle, Ladakh.

We booked our stay in Sapna Homestay, Hanle - the entire stretch from Khardung La to Hanle was super colorful and awesome. Umpteen shades of brown, green, grey, white - simply fantabulous

No blogs or vlogs or pictures can tell the reality - only experience will explain precisely, I mean it.

We had in-house dinner :) roti, curry, dal, chawal - juice :) super cold night - wowwww!!!

Luv,

Krishna & Mahadevan
