Kanyakumari-Kashmir Round trip - Day 24 - Haridwar - Nainital - Sitarganj

Day 24 - Haridwar - Nainital - Sitarganj (stay in Sitarganj)

Kilometers covered - 350 KMs

Walking - around 10000 steps

Another Ganga snan in Haridwar - Mahadevan did tharpanam in Ganga river bed. We cooked rice and had it with dal powder for breakfast and packed puliyogare lunch. Checked out from Haridwar hotel by 8.30 AM.

Fuelled the vehicle near Bhoothpuri - Iqbal automobiles IOCL pump.

On the way to Nainital, we visited Corbett Waterfalls inside the Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand. Less than a kilometer walk from the parking lot, very neatly maintained premise. Public can only view the waterfalls and not allowed to bathe.

The next spot was super duper thrilling trek to Freaky Waterfalls near Ghatgarh. Around 2 KMs walk / trek inside deep forest and it was scary throughout. Mahadevan skipped this trek and waited in the vehicle. I lost the way and ended up in a forest house - 2 old men were taking rest in a jute cot. Watchdogs started barking and one of them guided the way to reach the waterfalls. It was so dense and I started walking through the woods. To my surprise, I saw a bunch of youngsters few meters before the waterfall. They were equally surprised seeing the solo walk. They offered some water (observing lot of sweat) and started their walk towards parking lot. The waterfall had 2 layers, however water was very less, being summer. I thoroughly enjoyed the trek. Spent 10 minutes watching the waterfall area and surroundings and started walking back (all alone).

On the way back, caught the youngsters - chatted for few minutes and marched towards the parking lot. I gulped 1 liter of water and the shopkeeper was super surprised - lolz. Explained Mahadevan regarding this adventure and he felt happy to skip this thrilling trek :) Puliyogare lunch in car :)

Few KMs before Nainital - we stopped in another waterfalls - Woodland Falls. Another 3 layer falls - structured route with entry fees.

The traffic was huge and we didn't get space to park the vehicle. Mahadevan advised that he would wait few meters away from Eco Cave Park, Nainital and insisted me to visit that. I took the tickets and was realized that it was for kids :) There were many caves with artificial sounds and structures which would definitely excite kids. As a kid, I enjoyed it too :)

They also had zipliners, zipline cycling etc.., within the park - however I skipped them because Maha didn't turn up.

Naina Devi Temple - a famous temple in Nainital. We couldn't find space to park the vehicle as it was too crowded. We decided to park in a gully few meters away from the temple. Visited the temple - surprised seeing Buddha instead of Balaram in the dasavataram instilled within the temple campus.

Pedal Boating in Nainital Lake - Mahadevan was vibrant and active while I lost all the energy walking through the woods. However, took the boat - it was hard to pedal against the wind. Did a big round ride for 30 minutes :) Post boating - snacks time - pani puri, aloo tikki chaat and chai.

We had already saved 3 days from the original plan and hence we added more places and used one extra day in Haridwar (visiting Kurukshetra, Rishikesh, Neelkanth etc..,) The plan was to stay in Nainital today, however we felt we should drive downhill as we can cover some kilometers in the evening without traffic. We bought some fruits for dinner and drove to Sitarganj to stay overnight - Hotel Yuvraj Palace. A hell of a stay - no power, lack of ventilation etc.., atlast good nighted by 12 :(

Luv,

Krishna & Mahadevan
