Kanyakumari - Kashmir - Round trip - Day 28 - Ranchi - Bundu - Balasore - Bhubaneshwar
Day 28 - Ranchi - Bundu - Balasore - Bhubaneshwar (stay in Bhubaneshwar)
Kilometers driven - 530 KMs
Walking - 3000+ steps
It was drizzling when we started the car - 7.30 AM. Near a chaurastha, we stopped in a restaurant for breakfast - the best sambar of the trip - wowww.... However, poori in Jharkand, Odisha and in some parts of Andhra are made of maida. We didn't like the taste and stickiness as we got used to atta puri. Anyways, had breakfast, chai and went to Khukuri IOCL Service Station, Ranchi for a quick CNG refill.
Ranchi Jagannath temple - a small hillock, around 10 KMs from our hotel. Looking at the route and surroundings, it should have rained heavily the previous night. We could see lot of giant wheels, dora dora, break-dance kind of adventure rides in and around the temple complex. A festive feel - guess there would have been a big festival (maybe coz of Rath Yatra time), unsure though. A very vast ground and so many street carts, temporary stalls etc..,
The idea was to visit Bundu Sun Temple, Jharkand in NH 16, however Gmaps took to us a remote sun temple inside an Industrial complex.
Suddenly, we got a call from the hotel (Lakefront) claiming that we broke the towel rods and are responsible for the damages. Thankfully, there were no towels in the room and we dialled the reception to bring it. Explained her the situation and informed that it would have already been broken. She hung up without an apology - poor service :(
We then touched NH 16 and saw the sign boards to the big temple Bundu Sun Temple - a huge structure of Sun with the Chariot - absolutely stunning. The climate throughout was very moody, cloudy with frequent drizzles.
NH 16 was super good in terms of maintenance and cleanliness - very few patch works. We just sailed through JH and OD in a flash (and the NH tollways debited our fast-tag at the same pace) A cop stopped us in the JH border, we slowed down and I was removing the seat belt to get down. He immediately rushed to the door and shouted - ''you were not wearing the seatbelt'' - ROFL. He was super excited and tried to utilize the outstation vehicle syndrome to charge some fines for target or to pay his utility bills off the record (Karnataka is a gold medallist in those kind of fines or bribes). I controlled the emotions and got down, explained the situation and showed him pictures of our expedition and he agreed to let us go :)
When we passed Balasore, a very interesting and colorful temple caught our eyes. Visited the Mangalapur Mriyunjay temple - very clean and soulful
We stopped at a highway restraurant for lunch. We waited for around 25 mins after placing the order and it was not worth a wait. Ordered Roti, chawal and a curry - none of them were tasty. We ordered a dry manchurian and they gave a gravy - horrible taste :(
Another CNG refill M/S First Fill, Baripada, Odisha (hand written bill with no headers and only seal - lolz).
Heavy downpour around 4 PM, reached Cuttack by 5 PM. Another CNG filling at Sri Siddhi Vinayak Service Station, Cuttack, Odisha
Settled in Treebo Lazystay Elite, Bhubaneshwar. We had sprouts salad, masala boiled peanuts and fruits for dinner
Luv,
Krishna & Mahadevan
